NHS IAPT Trainee High Intensity Therapist BNSSG

The Role:

  • This is an exciting opportunity to join Vita Health Group as a Trainee High Intensity Therapist within an IAPT Primary Care mental health setting.
  • You will receive high quality training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) at the University of Exeter, working towards a Post Graduate Diploma in High Intensity Psychological Therapies.
  • You will provide High Intensity CBT interventions recommended by NICE to clients with moderate to severe common mental health disorders.
  • The Trainee position is aimed at mental health professionals who have some experience in CBT and who continue to work in a mental health environment.
  • Exeter University will deliver blended training (a mix of online and in person). There will be a requirement to attend some training in person – this is likely to be primarily in Bristol although it may be necessary to travel to Exeter for some teaching.
  • There is the opportunity to study either Full Time, 37.5 hours per week (over 12 months) or Part time, (0.7-0.9 wte over 24 months).

Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • Core Professional training or qualification (https://babcp.com/Accreditation/Provisional-Accreditation/Core-Professions), OR successful assessment of KSA portfolio (https://babcp.com/Accreditation/Provisional-Accreditation/Knowledge-Skills-and-Attitudes).
  • For PWPs there needs to be a minimum of 2 years of practice post qualification.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent in a discipline connected to mental health (or ability to study at third year undergraduate degree level).
  • Membership of the BABCP (from the time that the course commences).
  • Availability to attend university as required.
  • Experience of working in mental health services, including risk management.
  • An understanding of anxiety and depression and how it presents in Primary Care.
  • An understanding for the need to use evidence based psychological therapies.
  • Ability to meet agreed/specified service targets.
  • Ability to manage own caseload and time.
  • IT literacy and the ability to use patient record information systems, diary systems and maintain clinical records in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Evidence of values that are consistent with the NHS constitution and VHG’s values. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including telephone skills.
  • Interpersonal skills to engage and develop working alliances with colleagues and patients, including the ability to develop good therapeutic relationships and inter-agency relationships.
  • Evidence of an openness to learning new knowledge and skills.
  • High level of enthusiasm and motivation.
  • Willingness to travel, which may include overnight stays on occasion, as and when required.

Desirable:

  • Evidence of foundation level or sustained CPD in CBT.
  • Evidence of supervised CBT practice.
  • Experience of working in Primary Care/IAPT services.
  • Worked in a service where agreed targets are in place demonstrating clinical outcomes.

 

KSA Applicants:

Candidates who do not have a core professional qualification are required to produce a complete KSA portfolio, to be submitted for assessment, at interview.

Please note that PWPs cannot be recruited to HI posts or as HI IAPT trainees until 2 years post qualification. These 2 years of practice commence only at the date of confirmation of the full PWP qualification by the University, not at the end of the teaching timetable. This standard in monitored nationally by the BABCP.

KSA Candidates who are selected for interview will be provided with the necessary documents and instructions/guidelines for completing their KSA portfolios.

Other Requirements:

  • A Disclosure and Barring check (DBS, formerly CRB) will be required by the service for appointment to post.
  • You will be required to attend the two Course Induction Days with Exeter University, usually held in December.
  • The course will start at the beginning of January 2023.
