NHS Trainee PCE Counselling for Depression (CFD) Practitioner


We have an exciting opportunity for experienced Practitioners to train with us for a recognised Counselling for Depression (CFD) qualification. You will study with Nottingham University where there will be a mix of face to face and remote teaching and will work with Vita Health Group on your non study days remotely.

There will be a 1 hour induction on 12th February 2026.

The start date at Vita will be 23rd February 2026.

  • Using your skills gained through study, you will deliver Counselling for Depression (CfD) via multiple channels including telephone or secure video link.
  • Where required, you will conduct structured telephone-based assessment providing immediate emotional support and make clinical decisions based on clients presenting issues and needs, and ensure positive outcomes by encouraging the most suitable clinical interventions
  • You will manage your own case load and be accountable for and deliver service key performance indicators

 This is a fixed term role for 12 months. 

After completing the training and becoming qualified, there may be an opportunity to apply for a permanent CFD post.

Your skills and background:

Essential:

  • Diploma in person centred or humanistic counselling or psychotherapy  
  • Accredited or working towards a recognised professional Counselling body e.g. BACP, UKCP or eligible to apply for accreditation
  • Availability to attend Nottingham University as and when required (learning will be a blend of remote and face to face study)
  • Minimum of two years post qualification experience
  • Has not received any salary support from NHSE within the last 2 years
  • Ability to conduct comprehensive risk assessment and formulate robust risk management plans
  • Experience with routine clinical outcome monitoring
  • Worked in a service where agreed targets are in place demonstrating outcomes
  • An awareness of and commitment to supporting and facilitating diversity and inclusion

Desirable:

  • Post graduate qualification in humanistic or person centred counselling or psychotherapy
  • Experience of working in a talking therapies service
