Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner - Kent and Medway

Our Trainee PWP positions are very popular, and due to high volumes of applications we may need to close the advert early. Therefore, we advise you to submit your application as early as possible.

We have several opportunities to recruit enthusiastic and committed Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (Trainee PWPs) to join a busy IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) service operating across AQP Kent and Medway.

In this role, you will provide Low Intensity interventions whilst undertaking the PG Certificate delivered by the University of Surrey commencing in April 2023. This training post will equip you to provide Step 2 Guided Self-Help Low Intensity Interventions to clients with a range of common mental health problems such as anxiety and depression in primary care, for which CBT interventions are demonstrated to be clinically effective.

You will be joining a motivated workforce and will be supported in the completion of both your academic study and clinical delivery by skilled and experienced supervisors. After successful completion of the course you will transition to the role of qualified PWP.

The Role:

  • You will typically spend 2 days per week studying and 3 days in service. The University course will be a mixture of 60% face-to-face learning and 40% online learning (mainly in module 3) so you must be able to attend in person. Your days in service will be remote initially, with preference for a local workforce.
  • The start date of the course is 26th April 2023, with a service induction beginning on 17th April.

Skills and Experience:

There are two routes available for study and candidates can train at postgraduate or undergraduate level.

Postgraduate entry requirements include an undergraduate degree at 2:1 or evidence of previous successful study at Regulated Qualifications Framework Level 6. If you do not have a Masters and have a degree at a lower classification than a 2:1, there is a requirement to write an academic essay, with guidance provided, to demonstrate your ability to study at postgraduate level (or otherwise enter onto the undergraduate route).

Undergraduate entry requirements include a minimum of three passes (grade C or above) at GCE A Level (not including General Studies or Critical Thinking) or an equivalent qualification.

Essential:

  • Evidence of at least two years experience of working with people who have suffered with a mental health problem
  • Flexible and able to provide out of hours clinics as required by service needs in proportion to hours worked
  • An awareness of and commitment to supporting and facilitating diversity and inclusion

Desirable:

  • Previous mental health experience
  • Training in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, art therapy or within a psychological therapy, psychology or other health related undergraduate / post graduate degree.
