Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner - University of Lincoln/Nottinghamshire

We are looking for pioneering, skilled clinicians to join us on this exciting journey and play a central role in shaping the delivery of NHS Talking Therapies across Nottinghamshire.

The Role

We are looking for aspiring Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWPs) to join our Nottinghamshire Talking Therapies service as Trainee PWPs in the September 2026 cohort at the University of Lincoln.

In this role, you will provide Low Intensity CBT-based interventions whilst undertaking the PGCert Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner delivered by the University of Lincoln commencing in September 2026. This training post will equip you with the skills and knowledge to provide evidence-based treatment to clients with a range of common mental health problems such as anxiety and depression.

You will be joining a motivated team of mental health professionals and experienced supervisors, who will support you to complete both your academic study and your clinical delivery.

A typical working week includes 4 days of clinical practice with the service and 1 day attending university. University days will consist of face to face training so you must be able to attend in person each week.

Whilst your clinical practice is likely to include some remote working, you will be required to attend one of the Nottingham offices for part of the week.

Getting to know you

The University of Lincoln offers two levels of academic training for PWPs: Undergraduate Practice Certificate and a Postgraduate Certificate. Both these programmes are accredited by the British Psychological Society.

Typically, for the undergraduate route you will have previously studied to Level 5, however, those with Level 3 or Level 4 study may be considered. If you have studied at Level 3 or Level 4 you will need to be able to demonstrate your ability to work at Level 5 by completing an academic task set by the university, which will be reviewed by the Programme Team. Essential Criteria: Undergraduate Practice Certificate

  • At least three GCSEs at grade 4 (C) or above, which must include English and Maths or Statistics. 
  • Minimum of 1 passed A level study required or equivalent Level 3 qualifications may also be considered. 
  • Ability to perform at academic Level 6
  • Evidence of at least one year’s working experience in settings with high exposure to people with mental health difficulties
  • Evidence of interpersonal skills to engage and develop working alliances with colleagues and patients
  • Evidence of an openness to learning new knowledge and skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent administrative and time management skills
  • Flexibility and be able to provide out of hours clinics as required by service needs (one late shift of 12-8pm required)
  • An awareness of and commitment to supporting and facilitating diversity and inclusion

Essential Criteria: Postgraduate Certificate

  • Good degree (2:2 or above although candidates with a 3rd may be considered for the Undergraduate route)  
  • Evidence of at least one year’s working experience in settings with high exposure to people with mental health difficulties
  • Evidence of interpersonal skills to engage and develop working alliances with colleagues and patients
  • Evidence of an openness to learning new knowledge and skills
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Excellent administrative and time management skills
  • Flexibility and be able to provide out of hours clinics as required by service needs (one late shift of 12-8pm required). 
  • An awareness of and commitment to supporting and facilitating diversity and inclusion

Participants may not necessarily possess previous clinical or professional expertise in mental health and can undertake academic assessments at either undergraduate or postgraduate level, depending on their prior academic attainment.

Other Requirements:

  • Please provide a supporting statement (1000 word maximum) outlining why you are applying for the TPWP role, outlining your skillset and how you will transfer these skills into the TPWP role.
  • All shortlisted undergraduate candidates are required to submit a 1,000 word short report, addressing a question set by the programme team at the University of Lincoln. Candidates for the Level 6 programme will be required to pass this report at the undergraduate pass standard [40%].
  • Candidates whose first language is not English will be required to have a recognised English language qualification achieved no more than two years prior to admission: 
    • A British Council IELTS overall minimum score of 7.5 with no element below 7.0, achieved no more than two years prior to admission. 
    • Pearson Test of English Academic 73 (minimum 67). 
    • CELE pre-sessional course final assessment of "Pass with High Distinction". 

Please note:

  • Shortlisted applicants must be available to attend interviews held week commencing 22nd & 29th June 2026. All interviews will be held remotely via Microsoft Teams.
  • Applicants must be available to commence the role for in service induction (held remotely) on 7th September with University induction on 15th September 2026. All essential equipment will be provided.
  • A Disclosure and Barring check (DBS, formerly CRB) will be required by the service for appointment to post.
  • Applicants who have completed an NHS-funded psychological professions training programme within the last two years are not eligible to apply.
  • Only those with the right to work in the UK without restriction and eligible for Home Fee status can be recruited. These rules are set by the UK government and cannot be changed by individual universities or the NHS.
